But tomorrow did come. Monday Mom surprised us with a review day of schoolwork so we wouldn’t forget anything during our school’s wedding break. Ugh. I wanted to say, Really, Mom? but contained myself, which surprised me.

After schoolwork was done, I left for a walk and sent a text to Brooke. She called right back.

“You were anointed last night!” she almost gushed. “God came down! I don’t remember when I ever prayed that hard.”

I couldn’t help but smile at her words. “I prayed so hard I sweated through my clothes.” I abruptly stopped, wondering if that was OK to say to a girl. “I never thought preaching would be like that. I mean, God just took over. I hardly remember what I said. I never even looked at my notes.”

Brooked giggled. “You were awesome, Jeremy!”

A warm tingly sensation came over me. Brooke’s praise put me on top of the world. Brooke thinks I’m awesome! I thought of what I had done and realized my part was just being available to God. “All I did was go up there and have Pastor David pray for me. I was so scared.” Then words I had so often heard adults say came out of my mouth: “But, God never fails!”

“That’s right!”

We went on talking about the service of the previous night. God had moved in a powerful way. Many had prayed until after midnight, leaving mountains of used tissue as they were filled, renewed in the Holy Ghost, and/or prayed for loved ones.

As I walked along, I looked up at the sky. “Wow, can you see outside right now?”

“I’m in my bedroom. Just a minute,” I heard muffled sounds, then, “Wow, I’ve never seen so many stripes across the sky.”

“It’s been like this every day this week! What do think it means? There’s got to be some kind of reaction when this stuff gets to the ground.”

“Wait a minute,” Brooke said. “I have seen stripes like this before. This looks just like the first dream I had.”

Something sparked in my thoughts. “The first dream you had?”

“Right.”

I could see things clicking together. “What was the next dream you had?”

“It was the one where hands came out of the clouds holding a beautifully wrapped gift. Then I saw the person it was for stick their tongue out at God and make a face. God pulled the gift back into the clouds, and it disappeared. Then the girl, um, boy?” Brooke paused. “I don’t know, the person turned to a mirror and admired himself. That was the end.”

I thought through the verses in Jeremiah 5 that God had given to Brooke. “That goes along with the Scripture God gave you. God wants to give us good things, but we trust in ourselves instead of trusting in God.”

“Right.”

“The last part of the verses makes me think about the last two visions I’ve had,” I said.

“What were they?”

“Um, well, both of them had to do with just how evil the world is. There is so many lies everywhere. The only thing we can trust for sure is the Bible.
